Aesthetic Dentistry

We use the term aesthetic dentistry to describe all dental procedures that improve the appearance and function of your teeth (including dentures, veneers, bridges, crowns and tooth coloured fillings).

Are you unhappy about:

  • your teeth being stained or discoloured?
  • unsightly gaps?
  • your teeth being chipped, crowded or misshapen?
  • fillings which are old and need replacing?

At our Jesmond (Newcastle), Stanley and Ponteland practices, we can provide a number of treatment options to transform your smile, including:

Veneers (porcelain or composite)

What is a veneer?

  • A veneer is a thin layer of porcelain or composite made to fit over the front surface of the tooth

When would I need a veneer?

  • To improve the colour, shape and position of your teeth
  • To make a chipped tooth look intact again
  • To close small gaps when orthodontics (braces) are not suitable

What are the advantages of veneers?

  • Very little preparation of the tooth is needed
  • They make teeth look natural and healthy

Will I need a temporary veneer between visits?

  • The preparation of the tooth is so slight you will not need a temporary veneer
  • However, for very unsightly teeth, temporary veneers can be fitted

How long will a veneer last?

  • Veneers should last for many years

How much will it cost?

  • Your dentist will confirm the cost before starting any treatment

We offer:

  • A free consultation
  • A bespoke treatment plan
  • A written fee estimate
  • Interest free credit for any treatment over £350
  • Up to 20% off private treatments when you become a member of The Honour Health Club (ask us for further information)

Bridges

Why should I have a bridge to replace my missing teeth?

  • Appearance – make the most of your smile
  • Reduce strain on the remaining teeth
  • Bite with confidence
  • Prevents decay and gum disease

Why is a bridge used?

  • Where there are fewer teeth to replace
  • When missing teeth are only on one side of the mouth

What are bridges made from?

  • Porcelain bonded to precious metal
  • Precious metal
  • Some new bridges can be made of a special type of extra strong porcelain

Can I have a bridge fitted straight after having a tooth removed?

  • It is very unlikely as it can take up to six months for the gums to heal properly
  • So you may have a temporary denture before the bridge is fitted

How do I care for my bridge?

  • Clean your bridge every day
  • Clean under the false tooth every day
  • Your dentist or hygienist will show you how

What will a bridge cost?

  • Costs will vary according to the size and type
  • Each bridge is unique
  • Your dentist will confirm the cost before starting any treatment

We offer:

  • A free consultation
  • A bespoke treatment plan
  • A written fee estimate
  • Interest free credit for any treatment over £350
  • Up to 20% off private treatments when you become a member of The Honour Health Club (ask us for further information)

Crowns

What is a crown?

  • A crown is a tooth-shaped ‘cap’ that is placed over a tooth
  • Used to cover the tooth to restore its shape and size
  • A crown is sometimes known as a ‘cap’

Typical reasons for having a crown

  • To improve the appearance of discoloured fillings
  • To cover or protect a very large or root filling
  • To help hold a bridge or denture in place
  • To restore broken teeth or teeth weakened by decay

How is a crown prepared?

  • The tooth is prepared to the correct shape for the crown
  • An impression (mould) of the correct tooth is taken
  • Then the crown is made by a dental technician

What is a post crown?

  • For root-filled teeth it may be necessary to insert a post for a crown
  • The post provides support and helps the crown stay in place

How is the crown fitted?

  • It is fixed in place with special dental cement or adhesive
  • The cement forms a seal to hold the crown in place

How long does the treatment take?

  • It is likely to take at least two visits
  • Visit 1 typically involves preparation, impression, shade taking and fitting the temporary crown
  • Visit 2 typically involves fitting the permanent crown

Will the crown be noticeable?

  • You can choose if it is noticeable or not
  • Porcelain or ceramic crowns can be matched to the colour of your natural teeth

How do I care for my crown?

  • The crown itself cannot decay
  • Decay can start where the edge of the crown joins the tooth
  • To prevent decay, just clean a crown like a natural tooth

How long will the crown last?

  • Properly cared for crowns should last for many years

What will it cost

  • Costs will vary according to the type of crown and materials used
  • Your dentist will confirm the cost before starting any treatment

We offer:

  • A free consultation
  • A bespoke treatment plan
  • A written fee estimate
  • Interest free credit for any treatment over £350

Tooth coloured fillings

Why should I consider white fillings?

  • They are natural looking
  • They won’t show when you laugh or smile

Are they as good as silver amalgam fillings?

  • To enhance the appearance – absolutely
  • With the advancement of new materials they are proving to be very successful and long lasting

Is it worth replacing my amalgam fillings with white ones?

  • When an old filling needs replacing, yes
  • Or if you are unhappy with their current appearance, your dentist can advise you

What are tooth-coloured fillings made of?

  • composite fillings
  • glass ionomer
  • porcelain inlays

How much do white fillings cost?

  • Costs depend on the size and type
  • Your dentist will be able to advise you before starting treatment

  • A bespoke treatment plan
  • A written fee estimate
  • Interest free credit for any treatment over £350
