There’s no doubt that there’s been a huge increase in demand for anti wrinkle treatments and fillers in the past two years, with the rise of social media and celebrity endorsements.
What used to be a discrete aesthetic treatment (for older ladies wanting to look their best) has now become popular with a whole new generation. Young women in their 20s are constantly seeing celebrities and influencers on Instagram with fuller lips and more defined cheeks, and they want to achieve the same result. These young women also see anti wrinkle treatment as a preventative treatment to stop wrinkles from forming in the first place.
However, there are a growing number of rogue practitioners around the UK who are simply not qualified to carry out these anti wrinkle treatments and filler treatments. Often they entice patients in with cheap deals and imply that there are no risks involved.
Last year, there were almost 1000 complaints about botched anti wrinkle and filler treatments. Figures from HuffPost UK revealed that infections are the biggest problem. Patients also told of poor or uneven results, such as ‘unsightly lumps’, or ‘unusually painful swelling and bruising’.
That’s why, if you’re considering an injectable treatment, then it’s so important to research, research, research. Be very wary – don’t gamble with your face! Find a reputable practitioner and research their credentials. In particular, check if they are registered with the Joint Council of Cosmetic Practitioners (JCCP) and the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
The JCCP has been set up to help those who are considering or undergoing non-surgical treatments with advice on patient safety matters and showing them how to access registers of approved practitioners.
Our principal dentist Onkar Dhanoya has 30 years of experience and is an approved practitioner on the JCCP register. He carries out anti wrinkle treatments, lip fillers, cheek fillers and tear trough fillers in his skin clinics in Newcastle, Stanley and Ponteland.
Being a JCCP registered practitioner gives assurance to patients that Onkar is:
- qualified at the appropriate educational level
- permitted to practise independently
- practising safely and ethically according to a robust set of standards/code of practice.
If a patient comes to us enquiring about anti wrinkle treatment or fillers, we always carry out a thorough consultation with that patient and establish whether or not the treatment is suitable. We discuss the treatment process at length so that the patient is fully informed of what the procedure involves and what to expect.
If you would like any further advice about these treatments, please book a consultation with Onkar Dhanoya at your chosen practice – Newcastle, Ponteland or Stanley.
