On Wednesday the 5th March, The Honour Health team were kindly invited to local school West Jesmond Primary as part of their careers week to run some fun and informative sessions with their early years pupils. The workshops focused on the importance of good dental hygiene as well as giving the pupils an insight into the day-to-day life of being a dentist!

With 1 in 5 children aged 5 experiencing oral health problems in England and tooth decay being the number one reason children are admitted to hospital to have treatment, it was a great opportunity to share the importance of dental hygiene with the pupils.

Our Practice Manager Vicky Beacher along with Dentist Rebekah Dale and Dental Nurses Emily Johnson and Ella Theodorakis were involved in running 6 workshops across the day with children aged between 5 and 7 years old.

During the interactive sessions, the children were taught about good dental hygiene practices – this included the importance of brushing teeth twice a day for 2 minutes, what happens if teeth aren’t brushed regularly and a fun activity where the children sorted foods into those with high and low sugar content.

Our dental team also used a model to demonstrate the best techniques for brushing our teeth for healthy teeth and gums. The children also had fun practising on the model themselves with a toothbrush!

Our Practice Manager Vicky Beacher said: ‘I was delighted to see how engaged and excited the children at West Jesmond Primary School were to get involved with our workshop and learn about good oral hygiene.’

We hope all the children enjoyed learning about how to keep their teeth and gums healthy. We would like to thank West Jesmond Primary School for the opportunity to come and talk to the children about promoting good dental care, hopefully instilling good oral hygiene for years to come!
